Winter Rentals

We do offer winter rental options in a very quiet and peaceful setting; this also includes our team; at bit more limited, but ready to assist.  We are excited to host you in the quieter time and look forward to the for 2023 season.

Madeline Island and the rest of the Apostle Islands are known to be great summer escapes. If summers are idyllic, winters are sublime. Average snowfall of 70 inches makes the area an ideal destination for the snow lover. Opportunities abound for the adventurous including downhill skiing at nearby Mt. Ashwabay, cross country skiing on the island or on trails outside Bayfield, snowshoeing, dog sledding or snowmobiling. Visit the Ice Caves in the Apostle Islands National lakeshore area, or simply enjoy the vast beauty of clean undisturbed snow and sky.

The Inn offers a variety of accommodations for the winter season. Nightly rentals are available at the Lightkeeper’s Lodge and the Lakeside Condominiums. We are currently in the process of updating rates so if you have questions, please call us.  Families and groups will enjoy a winter getaway at condos, rooms and townhomes with Jacuzzi tubs, fireplaces and a view of the lake, or at any of the warm and comfortable homes in our winter rental pool. Come to the island to enjoy the beauty of the winter season.

The following are open year-round:

– Lightkeeper’s Lodge
– The Bungalows– Fairway Suites

A Madeline Island Winter

Transportation to and from the island in the winter varies with the weather. The ferry service continues to the island until, or if, the bay freezes. If the ferry stops running there is a short period of time when the wind sled is put into operation until the bay freezes. The wind sled is passenger only, no vehicles, and runs a limited schedule. Most years the bay freezes enough to allow car traffic. Road conditions are carefully monitored. Call the Rendezvous Center or Chamber for road information. The Mission Hill Coffee Shop is open daily from 7am to 2pm. Groceries on the island are very limited in the winter season. The Pub Restaurant is closed in the winter.
