Madeline Island Music Camp…

Woods Hall Gallery and Studios…

Camp/Hike/Picnic

Big Bay State Park…
Located approximately seven miles out on County Road H, Big Bay State Park offers picnic areas, sandy beaches, hiking trails, nature walks as well as spectacular cliffs and caves. State Park sticker fee required. Park ranger programs are held through the summer months.

Big Bay Town Park…
This family park is located six miles from the Ferry landing. There is a picnic area, fishing, canoeing, swimming, and two miles of sand beach. From the top of the hill, the view is breathtaking, the best on the island. The long staircase heads down to the beach, over a bridge spanning the outlet for the inland lagoon. This park is owned and operated by the Town of LaPointe. www.bigbaytownpark.com

Harry Nelson Recreation Center…
Children’s play area and a baseball diamond are open daily. Programs of organized activities for children 6 and older are held throughout the summer months. Public events are also hosted at the site, on Middle Road, one block from Main Street.

Madeline Island Wilderness Preserve / Capser & Meech Hiking Trails…
The Madeline Island Wilderness Preserve, a non-profit organization dedicated to preserving the natural beauty of Madeline Island, possesses inland forest land for public enjoyment. There are two rustic trails, Capser and Meech, located approximately ½ mile on Big Bay Road from the ferry landing, across from the fire department. The Preserve also has scheduled walks throughout the summer months. Winter enjoyment includes cross-country skiing on the groomed Burroughs Trail on the far end of the Island or the Capser Trail.

Motion to Go…
Moped and bike rentals. Bikes for all ages, buggies, tagalongs, and bikes built for two are all available at Motion to Go. Hourly and daily rentals are available. Open Memorial Day weekend until mid-October. Call 715-747-6585  motion-to-go.com

History

Madeline Island Heritage Center…
Features buildings from another era, offering a glimpse of Island life from the 19th and 20th Centuries. Located ½ block from the Madeline Island Historical Museum. Complex restored and operated by Madeline Island Historical Preservation Association. Small admission fee.

Madeline Island Historical Museum…
Experience the rich history of Madeline Island through exhibits and public programs that explore three centuries of Island life, from Ojibway culture to the fur trade, missionaries to loggers, boat building to fishing. A lively musical slide show gives voice to the past and each artifact tells a story. The museum shop offers books, crafts, jewelry and gift items rooted in the island’s lore.
